8 held while being trafficked to India through Benapole

Benapole, Aug 21 (UNB) - Eight people including three women and children were arrested while being trafficked to India through Putkhali border here this (Saturday) morning.

The arrested people were identified as Chobi Rani, 40, Purnima Kirtonia, 25, Champa Rani, 16, Audhir Mondol, 52, Bimol Bokshi, 42, Shibu Mondol, 35, Arab Ali, 30, and a baby girl Runa, hailed from Barisal.

BDR sources said being tipped off that some people were being trafficked by a local gang of human traffickers through the border they conducted a drive along the border and arrested them at around 8 am.

Meanwhile, police arrested 8 suspected drug peddlers and 5 fugitive convicts in separate drives at Bhober Ber and Boro Asra village on early Saturday.

The arrested drug peddlers are-Mizanur Rahman, 25, Mostafa Ali, 30, Babor Ali, 24, Alamgir Hossain, 23, Shah Alam, 26, Selimur Rahman, 24, Mohammad Ali, 26, and Milon Rahman, 26.

The arrested fugitive convicts were identified as Moshiar Rahman, 27, Abun Hira, 28, Mominul Islam, 31, Al Amin, 36, and Raju Ahmed, 35.

Two separate cases were filed with Benapole port thana in this connection.
