Army completes demolition of cocktails and grenades in Bogra

Dhaka, Aug 22 (UNB) - Unexploded 153 cocktails, 14 grenades (HEM-36), 1 demi mine and 1 artillery shell, which were removed from Bogra Sadar thana, were destroyed by Bangladesh Army.

Bangladesh Army Explosive Expert team completed the destruction of unexploded 153 cocktails, 14 grenades (HEM-36), 1 demi mine and 1 artillery shell, which were removed from Bogra Sadar thana, said an ISPR release.

On January 6, 2009, two police constables were injured by explosion of some cocktails while removing the explosives from the thana premises to secured place.

After the incident, explosive expert team from Bogra Cantonment visited the area following a request by police.

Recovered explosives could not be exploded inside thana premises as Bogra sadar thana is situated in a crowded place.

In this situation, the explosive expert team from Army Headquarters again visited the area and took decision to destroy those by removing to safe place. But removing this sort of explosive need special type trailer, which is not available in any organization in the country.

Then, by the directive of Master General of Ordnance and overall supervision of Director, Army Headquarters Ordnance Directorate, Army Headquarters Ordnance Directorate locally made a special explosive transporting trailer.

Finally, one explosive expert team from Army Headquarters, led by Lt. Colonel Sohrab Hossain, and another explosive expert team from Bogra Cantonment removed the explosives by the trailer to Matidali, 5 km north from Bogra town and destroyed those there gradually on August 9.

Local administration and police provided necessary assistance to destroy the explosives.
