Four robbers held, three abductees rescued in Comilla

Comilla, Aug 23 (UNB) - Police arrested three robbers from a microbus in Lolbaria area of Sadar Dakkhin upazila on Saturday night and rescued three abductees.

Police said a gang of armed robbers numbering seven put barricade by keeping a microbus on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Lalbag area of the upazila at midnight.

They identifying them as DB men halted a plastic materials laden Dhaka bound covered van from Chittagong and snatched cash and mobile phone sets from its two drivers- Abul Qashem and M Alauddin and helper Masud - after getting them down from the vehicle.

Later, two of the gang members took control of the van
loaded with plastic materials worth Tk 2 crore and fled away with the vehicle.

The rest five robbers in a bid to kill the two drivers and helper boarded them in microbus and started for Lalmai hill but on the way at Lolbaria the victims raised hue and cry.

Hearing their cry for help, a team of patrol police after a hot chase seized the microbus and arrested the robbers identified as Omar Faruque, 30, Mosharraf, 31, and Mizan, 30, while two others Delwar and Wasim managed to flee.

Later, police recovered the hijacked covered van in abandoned condition from near the Mohona CNG Filling Station in Daudkandi upazila.
