Dhaka, Aug 24 (UNB)-The International Crimes Tribunal has once again set September 21 as the date for hearing the applications filed by the 5 top Jamaat-e-Islami leaders arrested for war crimes committed in 1971.
Passing the order on Tuesday, the tribunal asked the Dhaka Central Jail authorities to produce detained Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee before it on the date set.
On August 10, the tribunal had passed an identical order asking the jail authorities to produce Sayedee before it today (August 24). But the hearing has been deferred as the renovation work of the tribunal premises, being held at the Old High Court building, is yet to be completed.
The other top four leaders facing accusations of crimes against humanity are Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, secretary general Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojahid and assistant secretaries Mohammad Kamaruzzaman and Abdul Quader Molla.
The accused are facing charges under section 3(2) of the International Crimes Tribunal Act 1973 for genocide, murder, rape, torture, loot and arson committed during the Bangladesh liberation war in 1971.
The counsel for the war crimes-suspects had submitted three applications seeking stays on all further proceedings of the tribunal, sending back the records of the cases filed with Pallabi and Keraniganj police stations to the Dhaka CMM Court, and the release of all five arrested in connection with the cases.
