Dhaka, Aug 29 (UNB) - Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhul Huq and Livestock Resources Minister Abdul Latif Biswas Sunday said nothing to be worried about the anthrax that has affected cows and goats in Sirajganj and Pabna districts, claiming that the situation is under control.
“We’ve enough vaccine which is being given to the affected and no-affected cows and goats,” the Health Minister told reporters after an inter-ministerial meeting.
Dr Huq said if a person is attacked by anthrax he gets cured within a week after taking antibiotic. He also allayed the fear that anthrax spreads from man to man.
The Health Minister suggested that anthrax affected cattle heads will have be buried immediately after they perish.
The Livestock Minister said a camp with officials from the Health, Livestock and the Police departments will be set up at the western side of the Bangabandhu bridge to make sure that anthrax affected cattle heads can not enter the Dhaka City.
He said vaccine is being given to the affected cows and goats in Sirajganj and Pabna districts. Besides, vaccine is also being given to the non-affected cattle heads by grading them into A,B and C.
“We’ve adequate vaccines as well as preparations to combat the situation,” Latif Biswas said.
At present he said the number of anthrax affected people is 108, cows 22 and goats five.
