
Dhaka, Aug 30 (UNB) - In a major reshuffle in the police administration on Monday, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Hasan Mahmud Khandaker has been appointed as the Inspector General of Police.
Home Secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder told UNB Monday that Rajshahi DIG Moklesur Rahman has been appointed as new Director General of the RAB.
Sikder also informed that the services of outgoing IGP Nur Mohammad have placed under the Foreign Minister for appointment as Ambassador.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed IGP Hasan Mahmud Khandaker BPM, PPM, NCD was born in Peergachha upazila of Rangpur.
He joined the police service as a member of 1982 Batch of BCS (police) in 1984 after obtaining Honors and Masters degrees (English
Lit) from Dhaka University.
Hasam Mahmud began his career as ASP (Circle) of Tangail district in 1986. He was made ADC of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Additional Police Super of Sylhet, Police Super of Tangail, Deputy Police Commissioner of DMP, Additional Police Commissioner of KMP, Principal of Police Academy, DIG (Admin) of Police Headquarters, AIG (Training) of Police HQs, AIG of Special Branch (SB) and DG of RAB in February, 2007, before being promoted as IGP today.
Son of renowned police officer late Khandaker Abul Hashem, Hasan Mahmud obtained NDC from National Defense College in Mirpur and also earned several distinctive titles after completing various profession-related courses in America and Britain and other countries.
He received the country’s highest award in the profession Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President’s Police Medal (PPM) for his
outstanding contribution to this profession.
He also led Bangladesh Police delegation to various seminars, meetings and conferences held in USA, UK, Pakistan, Hong Kong,
Switzerland, Oman, Australia, Nepal, Pakistan, Turkey, Morocco and Vietnam.
Married and father of 2 children Hasan Mahmud loves to read books and angling. Playing cricket, table tennis and lawn tennis are also his
hobbies.
His wife Romaisa Samad, who is a social worker and researcher, is involved with a research firm, said a DMP press release.
