60-year old man died in police bullet

Habiganj, Aug 30 (UNB) - A 60-year-old man died in police bullet at Alinagar, a border village in Madhavpur upazila early hours today.

Nurul Islam, father of an alleged smuggler, died on the spot at about 1 am, police admitted.

Police said they fired in self defense when came under attack by villagers with sharp weapons as they were returning to the thana with Jebu Mia, a smuggler arrested with 200 bottles of phensidyl from his possession.

Detective police team led by sub-inspector Belayet raided the border village at about 12-30pm and arrested Jebu Mia. They claimed villagers armed with sharp weapons attacked them and snatched away Jebu Mia and left four police wounded.

Sub-inspector Belayet and constable Anisur Rahman were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital.
