Woman gets life term for murder in Thakurgaon

Thakurgaon, Sep 1 (UNB) - A court here convicted a woman on Tuesday and sentenced her to life term imprisonment for killing her husband’s second wife.

The court also fined the convict Fazila Khatun, wife of Abdus Salam of Malan Khuri village in Sadar upazila Tk 1000, in default, to suffer three months more RI.

According to the prosecution, on February 8 in 2008 Fazila picked up a quarrel with her rival Nurjahan Begum over a trifling matter in the morning. At one stage Fazila stabbed Nurjahan indiscriminately with a sharp weapon, leaving her critically injured.

The victim was rushed to Sadar Modern Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries in the evening.

Later, the family members handed over Fazila to police and a case was filed in this connection.

After examining the records and witnesses, District and Sessions Judge M Habibur Rahman pronounced the verdict.
