Kushtia, Sept 1 (UNB) - Anthrax was today detected among 17 ailing people at Dharmadah village in Doulatpur upazila spreading panic in the area.

Dr. Saleh Ahmed of Doulatpur upazila Health Complex visited the village and identified the affected people. The ailing people informed the doctor that they fell ill after taking mutton of suspected anthrax affected goats.

He said affected people were given proper medicines. He apprehended that more people might be affected by the disease.

Illias Hossain, Headmaster of DGM High school, said about 60 goats had been slaughtered in the area during the last 10 or 12 days when those were affected by anthrax. The mutton was sold at low prices and many people bought it.
