News - South China landslide kills 3, leaves 57 missing

BEIJING, Sept 2 (AP/UNB) - Rescuers are searching for 57 people missing after a landslide hit southern China and killed at least three people. The official Xinhua News Agency reported Thursday that the landslide hit Wama village in the southwestern province of Yunnan on Wednesday night. No further information was given.

Rescue efforts could be hindered by additional heavy rains in Yunnan that the Central Meteorological Station expects through the weekend.

China regularly suffers devastating floods, but this year's were the worst in a decade.

Xinhua reported late Tuesday that the death toll from floods has risen to 3,185, with more than 1,000 people still missing across the country.
