Chapainawabganj, Sept 2 (UNB)-Export-Import activities through Sonamasjid land port have been suspended today(Thursday) as the port operating private organization suspended work for an indefinite period demanding stoppage of extortion.
At least 300 Indian goods including onion, chili, fruit laden trucks stranded on the Indian side following the situation.
Mejor Iqbal Hossain, executive director of private port operating organization Panama-Sonamasjid Port Link limited, said some powerful people of the port area have been collecting toll forcibly from the Indian truck drivers for some days.
They have also been assaulting the drivers if they refuse to give them money, causing dissatisfaction among the drivers, he said.
In this situation all the administrative activities have been suspended today demanding stoppage of extortion and restoration of sound environment of the port, he added.
