Dhaka, Sept 2 (UNB) - The government will make public the report of investigation now under way to identify the dishonest businessmen involved in trying to create artificial crisis in the market during
the holy Ramadan.

“We’ll come up with the report once the investigation is over…legal action will be taken against the guilty businessmen under the existing laws,” Commerce Secretary M Golam Hossain told newsmen at a press conference at the FBCCI conference room.

He said a three-member probe body led by a deputy commerce secretary is investigating the matter. “We’ve received some allegations and primarily few allegations have been found to be true…the probe body is further looking into the allegations.”

FBCCI President AK Azad, first vice president M Jashim Uddin and co-chairman of the FBCCI market monitoring team M Helal Uddin were present at the press conference.

The commerce secretary said the market monitoring would continue round the year to contain the unusual price-hike of essentials.

“The strict market monitoring will continue till the ensuing Durga Puja,” he said.

Golam Hossain informed that the monitoring would continue even on public holidays.

He said there would be no crisis of sugar and edible oil as the stocks of sugar and edible oil are sufficient.

FBCCI President AK Azad thanked all for their joint efforts to keep market stable from the very beginning during the holy month of Ramadan.

FBCCI first vice president M Jashim Uddin appreciated the role of journalists through objective and positive reporting which, he thinks, helped to a great extent to keep the market stable.

“We don’t want to say that we’re cent percent successful in containing unusual price-hike…but we could control it to a certain extent,” he said.
