
NEW YORK, SEP 4 (AP/UNB) - Venus Williams easily eliminated 185th-ranked qualifier Mandy Minella of Luxembourg 6-2, 6-1 on Friday at the U.S. Open.
The No. 3-seeded Williams reached the fourth round for the 12th time in 12 trips to Flushing Meadows.
She won 18 of 21 points at the net and finished with a 29-5 edge in winners.
Williams' younger sister Serena watched the match in the stands.
Serena Williams withdrew from the tournament because of a foot injury.
