NEW YORK, SEP 4 (AP/UNB) - Rafael Nadal has won through to the third round of the U.S. Open with a 6-2, 7-6 (5), 7-5 win over Denis Istomin.

The top-seeded Nadal saved all seven breaks points against his Uzbek opponent.

Eight-time major champion Nadal, who is seeking to complete a career Grand Slam, reached the third round at Flushing Meadows for the sixth consecutive year but he's never made it to the final.
