Dhaka, Sept 6 (UNB)-The High Court’s interim bail to ex-state minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon of BNP in an extortion case remained in force, as the Supreme Court on Monday turned a deaf ear to the government plea.
Chamber court of Justice ABM Khairul Haque passed no order upon a government petition seeking stay on the High Court bail order.
On August 17, the HC upon a petition granted bail for three months to Milan in connection with an extortion case filed against him.
A local Awami League leader filed the case with Kachua police station in Chandpur in July this year accusing Milan of extorting around Tk 2 lakh from the informant in 2006.
Milan, who had been on the run for long, was sent to jail on March 14 this year, after he surrendered before a Chandpur court in another criminal case.
Additional Attorney General Mamtaz Uddin Fakir appeared for the government, while Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokan stood for Milan, who faces a series of criminal cases.
