Police HQs to open control room to handle crimes, extortion ahead of eid
Home Ministry formed monitoring cell to monitor police control room

Dhaka, Sep 6 (UNB)- Police Headquarters on Monday was asked to set up a special control room to give instant order to curb crimes like extortion, mugging, dacoity, ticket black-marketing or highway-river-way robbery as well as tackle garment workers’ unrest if any ahead of the eid.
The planned control room will also take steps to ensure secure transfer of people’s money from one place to another.
The control room to be headed by an officer equivalent to the rank of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) will be formed following the Home Ministry’s order.
The Home Ministry has already formed a 6-member monitoring cell today (Monday) headed by its Additional Secretary Iqbal Khan Chowdhury to oversee the activities and initiatives of the special control room.
The control room will collect information from all metropolitan police commissioners, DIGs (Ranges) and all units of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) round-the-clock and immediately inform the Home Ministry’s monitoring cell of the gathered information.
The Home Ministry’s monitoring cell will inform the Home Minister, the State Minister and the Home Secretary of the follow-up actions of the Police HQs control room.
Official sources said the control room will be functioning until further direction from the Home Ministry.
