Dhaka, Sept 6 (UNB) - Opposition BNP on Monday strongly protested and condemned the remarks of acting general secretary of Awami League Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif on Tarique Rahman.
Addressing an urgent press briefing at the party central office, BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said Hanif made the remarks as part of the ruling Awami League’s propaganda against Zia family.
“Such remarks are intentional… a bid to tarnish the image of Zia family and BNP,” he said.
Rizvi said the allegations brought against Tarique Rahman are baseless and motivated.
Former general secretary of city BNP Abdus Salam, Swechchhasebak Dal president Habib-un-Nabi Sohel, its general secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sopu and Mohila Dal general secretary Shirin Sultana were, among others, present at the briefing.
Earlier, on Sunday, AL leader Hanif said the August 21, 2004 grenade attack was launched under the direct supervision of Khaleda Zia and Tarique Zia to kill Sheikh Hasina.
