Makkah (Saudi Arabia), Sept 6 (UNB) - BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia joined special Munajat of Lailatul Qadr (Shab-e-Qadr) at the holy Kaba Sharif early Monday.

Million of Muslims from across the world took part in the nearly 30- minute long special munajat conducted by the head Imam of Kaba Sharif, Abdur Rahman Sudais, after Qiam-ul-Lail (Tarabi) at about 2:45 am on Monday.

Dignitaries from various Muslim countries, who are here as royal guests of Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, also took part in the special munajat.

Muslims offer Qiam-ul-Lail searching for the holy and highly blessed night of Lailatul Qadr (Shab-e-Qadr), the night the holy Quran was revealed. The night of 27 Ramadan is thought to be that holy night.

According to local sources, around 20-25 lakh Muslim devotees from different parts of the world, particularly from Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Kuwait, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey, UAE and Yemen joined the special prayers and munajat.

Leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia offered Qiam-ul-Lail in congregation along with million of Muslims at the holy Kaba Sharif.

She prayed for peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh and its people as well as greater solidarity and unity of the Muslim ummah.

Khaleda arrived in Saudi Arabia on August 30 to perform holy Umrah as the royal guest of Saudi King Abdullah. She performed Umrah on September 3.

She is scheduled to return home on September 9.
