
Jahangirnagar University, Sept 6 (UNB) - Mohammad Shahinuzzaman Shahin, an Master’s student of archaeology department, Jahangirnagar University (JU) made a successive turn on the research of prehistoric archaeology discovering some symbols of prehistoric civilization at a field research in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
His research activities were supervised by renowned archaeologist Dr Mozammel Haque, professor of archaeology department.
Shahin conducted his research titled “Human’s Culture of Prehistoric Era of the Chittagong Hill Tracts Areas.” The research places include SitKundu, Bashbari, Ghagra market, Gulsakhali of Chittagong, Adarkasra under Langdu Thana of Rangamati and Manikchhari of Khagrachari.
Prof Haque said this research work has confirmed human’s existence in Neolithic age (3500-4000 B.C.) across the Chittagong region.
After a long caring research and field work, Shahin discovered a new prospect of research disclosing some pictograms used by human of prehistoric era include various stones, equipments of woody weapons like axe, scraper, side-scraper, convex-scraper, concave-scraper and chisel.
Prof Haque claimed that this invention will be vital in the archaeological history of Bangladesh adding a new line to researchers on the research of pre-historical archaeology.
Sahin said, “I have started off my research just out of curiosity, nothing else, while surveying the land shapes, sewerage systems, food sources and raw materials of various equipments which are found in those areas. These areas were well habitable to human.
It is learnt that equipments of prehistoric era were found in 1978 at Sitakunda and in 1958 at Old Circuit House area of Rangamati but no research was conducted prior to this work.
Shain’s research has been revealed the belief of archaeologists’ supposition on human‘s existence of prehistoric era in those areas.
But now the field work is closed sin die due to financial crisis. He urged the government to provide funds for research.
