Shallow earthquake strikes off Indonesia

JAKARTA, Sept 6(AP/UNB) - A shallow earthquake has hit waters off western Indonesia.

The U.S. Geological Survey said Tuesday morning's tremor had a preliminary magnitude of 5.8.

It was centered 150 miles (245 kilometers) off the coast of Sumatra island, just 21 miles (34 kilometers) beneath the ocean floor.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injures.
