Dhaka, Sept 7 (UNB) - Petrobangla chairman Prof Hossain Mansur and Rupantarita Prakritik Gas Company Ltd (RPGCL) chairman Syed Abdul Malek again locked in tussle over the control of the RPGCL business affairs.
The RPGCL is a subsidiary company of the Petrobangla, but it has a separate and independent board of directors under an independent chairman.
The government through a gazette notification also provided full autonomy to the RPGCL management to run its business affairs. Still the Petrobangla has the authority to appoint and transfer some senior officials of RPGCL and other subsidiary companies within their own
peripheries.
As the head of the principal organization, the Petrobangla chairman is also a director of the RPGCL board.
On allegations lodged by the RPGCL, the Energy Ministry recently curtailed some of the authoritarian powers of the Petrobangla chairman regarding the appointment and transfer of the RPGCL officials. But it failed to put an end to the conflicts between the chairmen of Petrobangla and RPGCL. Rather, the conflicts seemed to have widened.
According to official sources, former secretary and RPGCL chairman Syed Abdul Malek again brought a serious allegation against Prof Mansur for foiling a board meeting of the RPGCL on August 11, 2010.
In a letter to the Energy Secretary, the RPGCL Board chairman narrated the incidents of that day and also the alleged misbehavior by Prof Hossain Mansur.
He also mentioned that a new meeting of RPGCL Board was convened on August 31. “But Hossain Mansur personally requested some directors not to attend the meeting,” the RPGCL chairman said.
He further pointed out that the collective bargaining agent (CBA) of the RPGCL also convened a condolence meeting on the same day to mourn the August 15 killing day.
The RPGCL cairman said that finding a coincidence, the Board meeting was suspended as a mark of respect to the condolence meeting. But when the Board Meeting was suspended, it was surprisingly observed that the CBA also suspended their condolence programme.
When contacted, Petrobangla chairman Hossain Mansur declined to comment on the matter and also on the letter of RPGCL chairman.
