Bangladeshi swimmers Palash, Rubel earn medals in 67th long distance swimming in Murshidabad

Dhaka, Sept 8 (UNB) - Bangladeshi swimmers Palash Chowdhury earned a silver medal and Rubel Rana bagged a bronze in the 67th Long Distance Swimming competition held on the river Bhagirati in Murshidabad on Tuesday.

In the men’s 19-kilometer race, Palash won the silver medal clocking 2 hours and 15.13 minutes and SA Games gold medalist swimmer Rubel bagged the bronze with a timing of 2 hours and 16.21 minutes. Indian swimmer Shanu Devnath clinched the event’s gold clocking 2 hours and 12.25 minutes.

In the men’s 81-kilometer, two Bangladeshi swimmers Monirul Islam and Niamul Haque failed to complete the race as they surrendered after maintaining 2nd and 3rd places respectively till the 50 meters.

In the women’s 19-kilometer race, Bangladeshi competitor Seema Islam also surrendered after 18 kilometers.

Indian Works Minister Kshiti Goswami was the chief guest at the closing function of the meet and distributed the prizes.

Nineteen swimmers took part in the men’s 81 kilometers race, 41 swimmers in the men’s group and 17 in the women’s group of the 19-kilometers swimming competition.
