Dhaka, Nov 4 (UNB)- Newly appointed Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Anne Margareta (Anneli) Lindahl Kenny paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Thursday noon.

During the meeting they discussed various issues of national and bilateral development.

The Prime Minister thanked Sweden and other European countries for their all out support in holding the December 29, 2008 general elections and thus restoring democracy in Bangladesh.

On bilateral trade and business, the Prime Minister said Sweden can be benefited by importing ships from Bangladesh as the country is manufacturing world standard ships.

In this regard, the Prime Minister said the government has allocated designated areas for flourishing of ship building industries here in the country.

Bangladesh has already exported ships to several countries including of Europe, she added.

Setting up of solar panel in Bangladesh for power generation, construction of deep sea port, elevated express way, sub way and railway link in Bangladesh came up for discussion at the meeting.

Margareta recalled Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visits to Sweden and lauded her leadership and valuable contributions to face climate change and global warming.

She also greeted Bangladesh for electing as a member of International Telecommunications Union - ITU.

The Prime Minister and the Swedish envoy expressed their hope that bilateral relationship between the two countries would be further strengthened in the days to come.

Ambassador at Large M Ziauddin, Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Mollah Waheeduzzaman and Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad were present.
