Chittagong, Nov 8 (UNB) - Nine followers of BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhuiry MP arrested overnight were given to 3-day police remand when produced before the court today.
Sitakunda police said Faridudin, Khairul Islam, Abul Mansur, Ibrahim Khalil and Mohammad Zafar were arrested in raids of different areas on Sunday night. Earlier in the day Mohammad Hossain, Mahfuz Ahmed, Shahabuddin and Zahirul Islam were arrested for setting fire on container lorry and vandalizing vehicles at Salimpur and Banshbaria along the Chittagong highway.
Former poura Commissioner Mohammad Selim, former JCD activist Anisur Rahman and three others were held under the same charge. But they were set free after interrogation.
Police produced those arrested before the Chittagong Judicial Magistrate court and sought for 7-day remand. The magistrate granted 3-day remand.
