News - Moudud seeks resignation of Muhith, SEC officials for share market scandal
Dhaka, Jan 22 (UNB) - BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed MP on Saturday said Finance Minister AMA Muhith should step down after admitting his mistakes in dealing with the share market that experienced series of slumps in recent weeks.

He also demanded resignation of the high officials of the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) for failing to handle the capital market, turning over 30 lakh small investors into paupers.

“They must pay the price of their mistakes,” Moudud told UNB over phone. He raised a similar demand at a discussion at the National Press Club in the afternoon.

Moudud, former Law Minister in the past BNP cabinet, said Tk 9,000 crore has disappeared from the money market following the repeated nose dives in the share index.

“For the sake of inquiry, they should resign, allowing NBR and Anti-Corruption Commission to fairly investigate into the matter,” he said, substantiating his demand for the resignation of the Finance
Minister and SEC high officials.
