Security steps against mugging, robbing in port city

Chittagong, Sept 10 (UNB) - Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have separately taken special measures against mugging, robbing in the port city and its outskirts ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Senior CMP police officers said they have already set up at least 30 check-posts at the key points of the city to screen criminals.

Wahidul Alam, Assistant Commissioner (Detective Branch) told UNB they have started surveillance at different strategic points including shopping centres, bus stations and railway stations to nab muggers and robbers.

“Some organized gangs have raised their heads on the eve of Eid and are indulging in mugging, robbing. We have all-out preparation to maintain city’s law and order,” he said.

Chittagong district police sources said they have also set up at least 25 check-posts on three major roads outside the city to check highway robbery.

ASP of Hathazari Circle Mohammad Babul Akter said police have been keeping watch round the clock on Chittagong-Rangamati highway,

Chittagong-Khagrachari high way and Chittagong-Cox’s Bazaar high way so that homebound people on the eve of Eid can reach home safely.

“Additional security measures will continue to be in place till the Eid day,” he added.

RAB-7 have taken additional security measures with deployment of more than 500 plainclothes RAB men in the port city and its outskirts prior in view of rising trend of crimes.

The elite force has started patrolling different key-points in the city along with other law enforcing agencies to ensure security of the people.
