Dhaka, Mar 31 (UNB) - The government-taken initiatives for the desired development of country’s agricultural sector are not reaching the farmers, and real farmers are not getting the benefits of the government’s stimulus packages, speakers said at a function on Thursday.

They alleged that a section of corrupt bureaucrats and local political leaders have been virtually impeding the government’s initiatives in the agricultural sector.

They urged the government to look into the matter to save the farmers, saying they think if farmers’ survival is directly related to the survival of civisilation.

They were addressing a discussion on ‘Krishoker Mukhei Sunun Tar Jibon Songramer Katha’ held at National Press Club today.

Campaign for Sustainable Development of Rural Lifestyle, Nagorik Sanghati and Karmajibi Nari jointly arranged the discussion with Nagorik Sanghati president Dr ASM Atikur Rahman in the chair.

Lawmakers Matiur Rahman and Shahriar Alam listened to the real-life tales of farmers suffering in the function.

Bangladesh Krishi University Prof Dr Ashrafuzzaman Selim and SAARC Agriculture Research Center’s researcher Dr Niwaj Pasha took part in the discussion.
