News - Govt urged to solve housing problems of building construction workers
Dhaka, Apr 16 (UNB) - Leaders of Imarat Nirman Sramik Union, Bangladesh (INSUB) on Saturday urged the government to build ‘construction colony’ for the building construction workers in district and upazila-level including Dhaka for solving their housing problem.

They also demanded full rationing system for the construction workers at fair-price to ensure their social safety and equal wage for the female construction workers.

The leaders also demanded inclusion of effective rules in the amended Labour Laws for safeguarding construction workers’ work environment and protecting their health and safety.

They made the demands at the National Representatives Conference of the Imarat Nirman Sramik Union, Bangladesh (Building Construction Workers’ Union, Bangladesh) at the auditorium of Supreme Court Bar Association today.

Industries Minister Dilip Barua attended the conference as chief guest chaired by INSUB president Rabiul Islam. State Minister for Law adv Qamrul Islam joined the conference as special guest and Rashed Khan Menon MP inaugurated the conference.

Speaking at the function, Dilip Barua said the government has taken effective steps to protect the rights of the workers and the government is reopening closed mills and factories to employ the unemployed workers.

“Building construction workers are the architects of flourishing civilization. The worldwide infrastructure development has become possible by their labourers,” he said.

Bangladesh Tarde Union Center general secretary Dr Wazedul Islam Khan, labour leader Abul Kalam Azad and Abdur Razzaque also addressed the programme.
