227 sued in UP post-poll violence in Bagerhat; 7 held

Bagerhat, Apr 17 (UNB) - Police on Saturday night filed a case accusing 227 people in connection with union parishad post-poll violence in Chitolmari upazila same night.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Munshi Abu Kuddus of Chitolmari thana filed the case naming 27 and against unidentified 200 others.

At least 50 people, including two policemen, were injured in post-poll violence between the supporters of newly elected Barobaria UP chairman Sheikh Wahiduzzaman Panna and defeated candidate Momtaj Ali Khosru at Borobaria Bazar on Saturday night.

Police later held seven people, who were accused in the case. The arrested were identified as Arif Sheikh, 24, Sadar Sikdar, 30, Ibrahim Chowdhury, 20, Jamal Sheikh, 38, Halim Sheikh, 31, Hafiz
Uddin, 26, and Nazrul Islam, 20.

All the arrested are residents of Borobaria village in the upazila.
