
Dhaka, Apr 22 (UNB) - JSC Gazprom, a Russian energy company has expressed keen interest to set up institute of petroleum and gas technology on DU campus.
Talking to UNB, Vice Chancellor (VC) of Dhaka University (DU) Professor A A M S Arefin Siddique said the Russian company came up with the proposal when the delegation met him at his office Thursday.
Arefin Siddique said the proposed institute of petroleum and gas technology will create expert and skilled human resources to explore gas and other mineral resources in the country. “It will be a milestone institution to attain self reliance in the energy sector,” he added
The VC expressed deep gratitude for former Soviet Union for its historic role during Bangladesh’s liberation war in 1971.
Petrobangla Chairman Hossain Mansoor, Chairman of Geology Department of DU Professor Mahmud Alam, Russian ambassador in Dhaka Gennady P.Trotsenko and Bangladesh ambassador to Russia Saiful Haque were, among others, present in the meeting.
The Russian delegation and the VC also discussed scholarship and students exchange programs.
