Dhaka, May 14 (UNB) - A solo painting exhibition of Monica Jahan Bose, a Bangladeshi American painter, began at the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC on Thursday (May 12).
Bangladesh Ambassador to USA and State Minister Akramul Qader inaugurated the exhibition at the Bangabandhu auditorium of the embassy.
Creative medium such as painting transcends geographic boundary and helps bridging gaps among different cultures, said Qader while inaugurating the exhibition.
The exhibition will remain open till May 23 except the weekly holidays, said a press release received here on Saturday.
The exhibition drew a good number of spectators including former US diplomats, art critics, representatives from cultural organizations and members of expatriate Bangladesh community.
Dr. Alyssa Ayres, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at the US Department of State, also attended the event.
This is the part of Bangladesh Embassy’s efforts to reach out to the US nationals by showcasing Bangladeshi culture and cuisine.
Painter Monica Jahan Bose’s exhibitions were held in many countries including Bangladesh, France, India, Japan, and the US. In 2010, she was one of 12 artists invited to participate in the prestigious Prix Marin Exhibition, an annual exhibition showcasing emerging painters in Paris.
