President for quick disposal of pending cases in both Supreme Court, subordinate courts to minimize public sufferings

Dhaka, June 8 (UNB) - President Zillur Rahman has emphasized taking appropriate measures for quick disposal of the pending cases in both the Supreme Court and the subordinate courts to minimize sufferings of the people.
The President made the exhortation when Chief Justice M Mozammel Hossain called on him at Bangabhaban this (Wednesday) afternoon.
During the meeting, the Chief Justice informed the President that some 10,575 cases now remained pending in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court and some 284,583 cases in the High Court Division while there are some 848,422 pending cases in the District and Session courts and 770,865 others in the magistrate courts.
He sought the President’s cooperation for increasing the accommodations and logistic support with more spaces for courts, record rooms and supporting offices in the Supreme Court, as well as raising the facilities for the judges and supporting staffs.
The CJ also sought the President’s support for immediate construction of the proposed 20-strorey building beside the Supreme Court annex building to lessen the accommodation problems.
President Zillur Rahman assured the CJ of his all possible support in this regard.
