Dhaka, June 12 (UNB)-Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president Khandker Mahbub Hossain on Sunday condemned the police excesses on the pretext of maintaining law and order.

“The government has established a police state like Ayub Khan,” he said at a protest meeting at the main entrance of the Supreme Court during hartal hours.

He termed illegal and without lawful authority sentencing jail terms to the hartal pickets by the mobile courts.

Khandker Mahbub Hossain, also adviser to BNP chief Khaleda Zia, asked the government to stop such “illegal” punitive actions. If it continues the government will have to face dire consequences, he warned.

Earlier, riot police thwarted BNP-Jamaat-tilted lawyers’ to bring out procession in support of the hartal.
