Dhaka, Jun 29 (UNB) - Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has called a two-day strike at Dhaka University on July 2 and 3 in protest against decision to change name of newly-constructed Khaleda Zia Hall on the campus.
The call was made at a press conference held on the campus at 1:30pm on Wednesday. JCD President Sultan Lalahuddin Tuku and secretary general Amirul Islam Alim were, among others present.
JCD President Tuku announced the decision to enforce strike on the campus on Saturday and Sunday and also threatened with tougher programs, including non-stop strike at DU if the decision to change name of Begum Khaleda Zia Hall is not rescinded immediately.
The DU authority in a meeting recently decided to rename Begum Khaleda Zia Hall, a newly-built women`s dormitory situated near Old Railay Hospital opposite to Fazlul Haque Hall.
The authority decided to rename the 15-storied dormitory as Poet Sufia Kamal Hall.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is likely to inaugurate the hall. The date of inauguration by the PM will be announced soon.
