Dhaka, Aug 23 (UNB) - Officers and employees under Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) have been asked not to leave their respective work places during vacation of Eid-ul-Fitr, in order to maintain rural roads, bridges and culverts damaged due to recent floods, on rush of water from hills and excessive rainfall.
The decision was taken at a meeting attended by LGED State Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak at LGED auditorium today (Tuesday).
LGED chief engineer M Wahidur Rahman presided over the meeting. Secretary of Local Government Division Abu Alam M Shahid Khan, among others, spoke on the occasion.
It was informed in the meeting that Tk 625 crore has been primarily allocated on emergency basis to maintain the rural roads as the preparatory measures.
There are some 72000 kilometers of curbed roads among the total of 2.9 lakh kilometers of roads under the LGED Ministry. Besides, about 4000 kilometers of roads and 35 meters of bridge and culverts have been made every year under various projects of LGED annual development program.
Speaking at the meeting, the State Minister said the Ministry would provide honorary certificate to those project directors (PDs) who have successfully implemented 100 percent of their projects under the fiscal year of 2010-11.
The State Minster gave directives to the respective district executive engineers to take prompt measures if roads are damaged due to flood and rainfall. “Negligence in this regard will not be tolerated,” he warned.
