2 held with contraband Indian goods in Keraniganj; Indian 3-piece worth Tk 42 lakh seized in Sharsha

Keraniganj, Aug 25 (UNB) - Two people were held with various contraband Indian goods in South Keraniganj while BGB seized Indian 3-piece worth Tk 42 lakh in Sharsha upazila of Jessore on Wednesday and Thursday.

Detective Branch (DB) police conducted a drive at Abdullahpur on Dhaka-Mawa highway in South Keraniganj and detained a Dhaka-bound covered van from Khulna along with its driver and helper at 11-30pm on Wednesday.

The following day, the van was opened in presence of Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Keraniganj Foujia Khan. Police recovered 170 pieces Indian punjabi, 7 carton Indian biscuit, 5 carton Indian semai, 7 carton Indian medicine and 3 carton Indian chocolate from it.

South Keraniganj police also arrested driver Nazrul, 32, and helper Shrikanth.

UNB Benapole correspondent adds: BGB in a drive recovered smuggled Indian 3-piece worth Tk 42 lakh from border area in Sharsha upazila in Jessore on Thursday.

Acting on secret information a BGB team raided a village between Sikarpur and Narikel Baria near India-Bangladesh border and recovered 505 pieces of Indian 3-piece and 3,420 meters long cloth (shirting) worth Tk 42.35 lakh in the morning.

The contraband items were handed over to Benapole Customs House.

No arrest was made.
