News - Opposition wants to return to Parliament, but atomosphere not conducive: JA Farroque
Dhaka, Oct 4 (UNB) - As the adjourned 3rd session of 9th parliament was due to resume this afternoon, opposition chief whip Joynal Abdin Farroque on Sunday said they want to return to parliament and speak for the people but the environment is not conducive for it.

Addressing a press briefing at the parliament media centre, he placed an 8-point demand, including withdrawal of the case about BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s Cantonment residence, as a condition of joining the House by the opposition.

The other demands relate to derogatory remarks about Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, giving two more posts of chairman parliamentary standing committees, halting attacks on and filing cases against opposition activists and withdrawal of cases filed against BNP activists during the tenure of Fakhruddin-led caretaker government.

The opposition chief whip said: “We’ll join the House if the demands are met… we are not drawing the allowances paid for attending the House as we are staying away.”

He added: Earlier, we placed 29 adjournment motions… all were rejected. We are not against the Asian Highway, but have objection about its proposed route.”
