Govt to print over 18.68 copies of school textbooks for free distribution next academic year

Sangsad Bhaban, Oct 4 (UNB) - The government has taken the initiative to print 18,68,22,950 copies of textbooks for free distribution to students of class I-X in the 2010 academic year, Parliament was informed today (Sunday).

Replying to AL lawmaker Benzir Ahmed (Dhaka-20) during the question hour, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said that of the total, 7,80,10,907 copies will be for primary level, 1,74,05,238 for Ebtedayi level, 7,47,07,222 for secondary level, 1,50,63,146 for
Dakhil level and 16,40,437 copies for technical level.

The adjourned 3rd session of 9th Parliament resumed today (Sunday) with Speaker Advocate Abdul Hamid in the chair after a recess of 18 days for Eid-ul-Fitr and Durga Puja festivals.

The minister further informed that the government had given work orders to 266 printing presses to print the 561 packages of the total 920 packages of textbooks.

Of the rest, 323 packages are at the final stage and under process to be given work order, he said.

The number of textbooks in each package is around 200,000 copies.
