Dhaka, Sept 22 (UNB) - At least 20 people were arrested in Khulna, Sylhet and Bogra during the hartal hours on Thursday.

In Khulna, 11 opposition activists were arrested from different parts of the city during the hartal hours.

Police arrested six leaders and activists of BNP, including party’s central committee member and ex-MP Kazi Sekander Ali, at city’s Boira Junction as they tried to bring out a procession at about 9am.

Police also arrested five activists of BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami from different parts of the city.

In Sylhet, police arrested eight pickets from different parts of the city this morning during the countrywide shutdown.

The opposition called hartal was being observed almost peacefully in the division with no major untoward incident reported from any where so far.

In Bogra, a chase and counter chase between police and Jamaat activists took place when police tried to disperse a procession brought out by Jamaat in Jamilnagar area of the town at about 6am.

However, none was injured during the clash.

In another incident, police arrested Dupchachia upazila Jamaat ameer Munsur Ali from the upazila bus stand at bout 8am on charge of picketing.
