Jessore, Sept 24 (UNB) - The district unit BNP enforced a half-day hartal in the town on Saturday, protesting attack on Maruful Islam Maruf, Pourashava Mayor and president of town unit BNP.

Most of the vehicles were off the roads and shops closed during the hartal, which was observed peacefully as no untoward incident was reported.

The party announced the hartal protesting the attack on Maruf by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jubo League activists during Thursday’s hartal.

About 25 opposition activists, including Maruf, were also injured as police charged baton on a procession of BNP activists near district BNP party office at Laldighi Par on Friday.

Maruf, who was admitted to a local hospital, returned to his home at noon today (Saturday).
