Sangsad Bhaban, Oct 20 (UNB) - Parliament sat for its 11th session Thursday afternoon without opposition that has been staying away from its proceedings for more than seven months.
The session began at 4:20 pm with Speaker Abdul Hamid in the chair.
The House Business Advisory Committee at a meeting today (Thursday) decided to carry on with the current session through November with some adjournments.
In the first phase, the session will continue till October 27 when it will be adjourned till November 14 for Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
After resumption of the session at 4:15 pm on November 14, the Speaker will decide the tenure of this session.
The session will start at 4:15 pm everyday excepting Friday and Saturday.
Chaired by the Speaker, the House Business Advisory Committee meeting was attended by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, HM Ershad, Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Abdus Shahid, Suranjit Sengupta, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, Tofael Ahmed, Fazle Rabbi Mia, Advocate Rahmat Ali, Rashed Khan Menon and Abdul Matin Khasru.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith attended the meeting on special invitation.
In absence of the opposition members, the day’s House proceedings were dull as usual. The BNP-led opposition members have been abstaining from parliament since the 8th session on various issues.
One of the complaints of the boycotting members is that they are not allowed to speak in the House on various important national issues.
There is no indication from the opposition camp about their return to the House during the current session.
The 10th session of the parliament was prorogued on August 25.
