Sangsad Bhaban, Oct 20 (UNB)- Senior members of parliament on Thursday slammed opposition leader Khaleda Zia for her remarks that Jamaat leaders Nizami, Mujaheed, Sayedee and BNP leader SQ Chowdhury are not anti-liberation elements.
Khaleda at her public meeting at Chapainawabganj on Wednesday also claimed that those who signed deals against national interests are anti-liberation people.
‘’She (Khaleda) should be censured for her remarks. This parliament should adopt a censure motion against her,’’ Awami League front-ranking leader Tofail Ahmed said.
JSD member Mainuddin Khan Badal on a point of order initiated the unscheduled debate after the question-answer session.
Senior treasury bench members Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and Suranjit Sengupta also joined the debate.
Badal demanded a general discussion on what had happened in Chittagong from March 1 to March 26, 1971 and why Khaleda refused Zia’s letter asking her to come out from cantonment.
Tofail said Khaleda basically wants to protect the anti-liberation elements like Nizami, Mujaheed and Sayedee and push the country towards chaos and civil war.
Sheikh Selim also demanded a censure motion by parliament against Khaleda Zia for her remarks.
He questioned IOJ leader Aminee’s recent threat to topple the government if arrested. ‘’What’s going on? Aminee is not above law,’’ he told the House.
Suranjit termed Khaleda’s remarks audacious saying she should not speak whatever she likes after leading the road march.
Referring to her threat to wage another war, he asked Khaleda against whom she wants to wage the war, taking war criminals and fundamentalists with her.
The treasury bench members urged the chair to set a day for general discussion on Khaleda’s remarks and adopt a censure motion.
The Speaker advised them to give a notice to the parliament secretariat for general discussion on this matter.
