Dhaka seeks investment in green energy sector
Dhaka, Oct 26 (UNB) - State Minister for Environment and Forest Dr Hasan Mahmud has called upon the Commonwealth business leaders to invest in Bangladesh’s green energy sector to cope with the adverse impacts of climate change.
He made the call while addressing the international conference on ‘Tackling Climate Change and energy Challenges’ organised by Commonwealth Business Forum at Perth in Australia on Tuesday, according to a message received in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Seeking investment in Bangladesh’s renewable green energy, the junior minister hoped that the business leaders of the Commonwealth countries would increase their investment as a favorable atmosphere is now prevailing in the sector.
He said developing countries like Bangladesh are being affected due to climate change due to anti-environment activities of the developed countries.
“Not only Bangladesh, but also the people across the globe will be benefited if the investment is made in an environment-friendly green energy sector in Bangladesh as the most vulnerable country,” Dr Hasan said.
He said the demand of electricity is increasing due to growing population in the world. “So, we should give importance on green energy to avoid the risk of climate change.”
Australian Minister for Climate Change and Energy Affairs Greg Combet, South African Minister for International Affairs Maite Nkoana Mashabane and Commonwealth and foreign affairs Minister of UK Loard Howell were, among others, addressed the conference.
Meanwhile, Dr Hasan Mahmud addressed another seminar on ‘Trade and Investment in South Asia’ organised by the Commonwealth Business Forum on Thursday.
