PM to hand over export trophies Wednesday

Dhaka, Nov 28 (UNB) - Forty-five business houses will receive export trophies in recognition of their extraordinary performances in export in fiscal 2009-2010.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will hand over the trophies and certificates among the awardees at a programme at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Wednesday.

The Ministry of Commerce and the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) will jointly give the awards among the institutions of 25 product sectors in three categories -- gold, silver and bronze. The awards are 16 gold, 18 silver and 11 bronze trophies.

Zaber and Zobaer Fabrics Ltd will be given gold medal for the highest exports this year, according a Commerce Ministry handout.

Bangladesh exports over 168 types of products to 187 destinations of the world.

The EPB recognises the exporters every year for their outstanding performances in exports though assessing quantity, value addition and entrance to new export destinations, new design and packaging and maintenance of quality of the products.

The government awarded 39 businessmen in fiscal 2008-09. The awards, including 19 gold, 13 silver and seven bronze trophies, were given among the exporters of 19 sectors under the three categories.
