Satkhira, Dec 14 (UNB) - A union parishad chairman was injured in an attack allegedly by the supporters of an upazila chairman in Ashasuni upazila on Tuesday.

The injured was identified as Shahnewaz
Dalim, Khajra UP chairman and also Jubo League leader.

Dalim alleged that supporters of Ashasuni upazila chairman ABM Mustakim intercepted his motorcycle at Kula crossing and slapped and punched him, leaving him injured at noon.

Another man, Anis, who accompanied Dalim, was not spared by the attackers.

Local people rescued the UP chairman, who later reached the town with the help of police.

Dalim alleged that he fell to the wrath of Ashasuni upazila chairman due to conflicts on different matters, including his rejection of Mustakim’s proposal to build a shrimp enclosure on 1,500 bigha of land in his union.

The victim said that he informed the matter to Police Super of the district.

When contacted, the upazila chairman denied the involvement of his supporters in the attack on the UP chairman.

He said some local people caught him on his way to the district town and on information he went to the spot and helped the UP chairman to go to his destination. He claimed that none beat him.
