Dhaka, Dec 22 (UNB) - Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said her government is making all-out efforts for full implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Peace Treaty to ensure peace in the region.

The Prime Minister said this during a meeting with Bandarban district unit Awami League leaders at her official residence Ganobhaban in the afternoon.

“You send out the message everywhere in the CHT that implementation of the peace treaty is one of our priorities,” she told the Bandarban AL leaders whom she invited to exchange views on development activities of their district and organisational matters.

The Prime Minister will exchange views with the party leaders and workers of all districts in phases.

Hasina said the present government has formed a committee led by the Deputy Leader of parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury to look into the socio-economic development of the CHT.

“We want to ensure that every people of the CHT will get benefit from our programmes,” she said.

The Prime Minister said her government has given constitutional recognition to all ethnic groups of the CHT through the 15th amendment to the constitution.

She reaffirmed that the perpetrators of torture on minorities, political opponents and tribal people in 2001 would be brought to justice as per directives of the High Court.

State Minister for CHT Affairs Dipankar Talukder, local parliament members and presidents and general secretaries of different AL units of Bandarban joined the programme.

Awami League presidium member Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Abdul Latif Siddiqui and Shahara Khatun, acting general secretary Mahbubul-ul-Alam Hanif, joint secretary Dr Dipu Moni, environment affairs secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud and senior party leaders were present.
