97.26 % pass in primary, 91.28 % pass in ebtedayee terminal exams; PM receives results

Dhaka, Dec 26 (UNB) - Female primary students outshone male as about 9 percent more female students passed in this year`s primary terminal examinations, results of which were published on Monday morning.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received a hard copy and a CD containing both the primary and ebtedayee terminal exams results which were held across the country last month.

Primary and Mass Education Minister Afsarul Amin formally handed over the results to the premier at her Gonobhaban residence at 11-45 am.

Over 2168,676 examinees sat for primary terminal exams while 316,000 madrasa students sat for ebtedayee terminal exams of 2011.

The exams were held in grading system this year with the percentage of pass in primary terminal exams 97.26 % while 91.28 % ebtedayee examinees have come out successful.

Manipur School in capital`s Mirpur topped the best schools` list in 2011 primary terminal examinations followed by Viquarunnisa Noon School.

Barisal division led the list of divisions which fared best while Munshiganj was the most successful district in primary terminal exams.

State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Motahar Hossain and DG, Primary and Mass Education, Shyamal Kanti Ghosh, among others, were present.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her satisfaction with the results and thanked all concerned for helping to hold the examinations timely and successfully.

Expressing her instant reaction the Prime Minister said Bangladesh`s children are meritorious and talented they await brighter future and if given appropriate scope they would fare even better in their examinations.

She mentioned that quality of education of all level has remarkably improved since her government took office in January, 2009, as reflected in results of examinations held in last three years.

She laid emphasis on properly raising and educating underprivileged children and the children with disability.

She said persons with disability also shine if given the chance to study. She urged all to give more scope to the challenged and disabled so that they can excel in their student life and build up bright career.
