Bandarban, Dec 28 (UNB) - Members of Mro National Party (MNP) on Tuesday night released 17 out of 21 people whom they kidnapped at gun point from Renenghim Para in Thanchhi upazila on Monday midnight.

Upazila chairman Khamlai Mro told UNB that the 17 kidnapped people, all Mro tribes, were freed by MNP members at a jungle at Renenghim Para. ``But the MNP did not release the four other abductees``, he added.

Whereabouts of the four captives could not be known immediately after the release of 17 Mro abductees, he said.

``BGB members have been conducting drive to rescue the captive quartet``, he added.

MNP members abducted the 21, including a chieftain, in sequel to a long-standing conflict between rival groups over establishing dominance in the area.
