Dhaka, Jan 11 (UNB) - Farashganj SC, which earlier reached the quarterfinal of the Grameenphone Federation Cup, emerged group D champions beating Wari Club by 2-0 goals in their last group match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here on Wednesday.
Farashganj SC, which secured seven points to finish top of group D, will play the quarterfinal against group A runners-up Muktijoddha Sangsad KC while group D runners-up Rahmatganj MFS (five points) will face Team BJMC in another quarterfinal.
Both the quarterfinal matches will be held on January 16 at the same venue.
After a listless first half, Farashganj SC went ahead as forward Pashbon Mollah broke the deadlock scoring the first goal for his team in the in 53rd minute with a shot from inside the D-box off a Jewel Rana cross (1-0).
Midfielder Saiful Arefin Rubel confirmed the Farashganj victory as he scored in the 81st minute with a powerful shot from 30 yards (2-0).
In another match, traditional old Dhaka ‘outfit’ Rahmatganj MFS finished group D runners-up as they held 10-men Brothers Union Club to a 3-3 draw at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in city’s Kamlapur.
Brothers Union, eliminated from the championship race after the day’s draw, was reduced to 10 men as match referee showed red card to their defender Khan Mohammad Tara in the 72nd minute for unfair play.
Brothers Union took lead through midfielder Kabir Hossain in the 31st minute (1-0) while Nigerian forward Lucky Divine restored the parity for Rahmatganj MFS in the injury time of the first half (1-1)
Divine put Rahmatganj MFS ahead scoring his second goal with a push in the 47th minute (2-1) while Anik leveled the margin for Brothers Union in the 58th minute (2-2).
Guinean midfielder Konte Bangoura scored the third goal for Ragmataganj in the 74th minute (3-2) while Nigerian striker Adams Jankash scored the equalizer for `all-orange’ Gopibagh outfit Brothers Union in the dying moment of the match (3-3).
