Dhaka, Jan 19 (UNB) - President Zillur Rahman on Thursday called for strengthening Bangladesh Accreditation Board (Bab) to help boost the export of local products by ensuring their quality.
“This institution (Bab) will have to be strengthened and made more prestigious one to increase the export of Bangladeshi products,” he said.
The President made the remarks when a six-member Bab delegation, led by its chairman Adv M Moinuddin Miazi, handed over its five-year report to him at Bangabhaban. Industries Minister Dilip Barua was, among others, present.
During the meeting, President Zillur emphasised taking appropriate steps for enhancing the efficiency of the institutions.
The Industries Minister said it is essential to ensure the quality of exportable products to help make Bangladesh a middle-income country by 2021. “So, Bab can help ensure the quality of products, which will ultimately help raise the export of goods to the global market,” he said.
Bangladesh Accreditation Board (Bab) is the national accreditation authority established in 2006 under an act passed by parliament as an autonomous organisation mandated for upgrading the quality assurance infrastructure and conformity assessment procedures in Bangladesh.
It also helps enhance recognition and acceptance of products and services in international, regional, and domestic markets. Bab offers accreditation for different types of conformity assessment bodies as per the international standard.
